How to Open STEP/STP Models
We provide versatile methods for viewing 3D models from local storage or remote web sources.
Privacy & Client-Side Safety: When you open a local file, all mesh parsing and 3D rendering take place strictly inside your browser environment. Your files are never transferred to external servers.
Opening Local Files
You can load STEP or STP files from your computer or mobile device using either of the following approaches:
-
Click the File Open icon () located on the main toolbar to select one or multiple
.stpor.stepfiles. -
Drag and drop your
.stpor.stepfile, folder, or a compressed archive containing models directly into the browser viewport.
Opening Remote Models via URL
To view a model hosted on a remote web server, click the Open URL icon () on the toolbar and enter the target direct URL link.
Note: The hosting web server must have CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) headers enabled to allow web fetching from step.viewer.abctool.info.
Loading Models from GitHub
To render a STEP or STP file hosted in a GitHub repository:
- Navigate to the file on GitHub and copy the URL from your browser's address bar.
- Open step.viewer.abctool.info and select the Open URL icon ().
- Paste the copied URL into the dialog input and click Confirm.
Loading Models from Dropbox
To view a STEP or STP file stored on Dropbox:
- Generate a public share link for your
.stpor.stepfile on Dropbox. - Visit step.viewer.abctool.info and click the Open URL icon ().
- Paste the link into the input prompt to load the model.
Exporting Models
You can convert or save your current 3D viewport model by clicking the Export icon () on the toolbar, selecting your desired target configuration, and downloading the output file.
Sharing & Embedding
Models loaded via public web URLs can be easily shared or embedded into your own site. Click the Share icon () on the toolbar to generate a direct shareable URL or copy an <iframe> HTML embed code snippet.
Viewport & Display Preferences
Customize the 3D scene rendering and visual aesthetics via the Settings panel () on the right sidebar:
- Background Color: Modify the viewport background shade for viewing and snapshot generation.
