Why do I receive an error stating "No importable file found"?

This notice appears when the selected file is not recognized as a valid 3D model. Our web viewer is optimized for .stp and .step (STEP / STP) CAD files. Please ensure your file extension is .stp or .step and check our supported format specifications.

Why does a model fail to open when using a remote URL?

When opening files via a web address, the remote host server must grant permission for cross-domain requests. If the URL is accessible in your web browser but fails inside the viewer, it is likely blocked by a CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) security header on the host server.

To resolve this, ensure CORS header permissions are configured on your hosting server to allow origin access from step.viewer.abctool.info.

Why can I open a local model file, but loading via URL fails?

Local files are parsed directly inside your browser memory without network requests. Remote URL loading requires HTTP fetching, which depends on valid network connectivity, correct URL syntax, and CORS access permissions on the remote server.

The standard STEP/STP file specification stores 3D CAD geometry (vertex coordinates and surface parameters) but may not always include custom surface color or texture mapping data depending on how it was exported.

Privacy & Sharing Features

Are my 3D STP/STEP files stored on your server?

No. step.viewer.abctool.info operates completely client-side in your web browser. Your 3D models are parsed locally in memory and are never transmitted, uploaded, or stored on external web servers.

Why is the share button disabled for local files?

Since files opened from your computer remain strictly within your local browser memory, no public URL exists for sharing. Sharing links and <iframe> embed codes are available when loading models hosted on public web servers via direct URL.
